Portland Restaurant Provides New Jobs
11:15am 14th March 2014
200 people applied for 20 jobs at a newly reopened restaurant on Portland.
The Harbour Lights, which was formally known as The Boat That Rocks had their launch party last night.
The bar and restaurant has been taken on by Nigel Williams and his wife, after being closed for a while after the previous tenants quit.
Julie Cleaver, President of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce told Wessex FM the reopening is perfect timing:
" A lot of people have enjoyed going to that establishment over the years and were just waiting to have it back open. And its just in time for the Easter Holidays so were very pleased to see it open again."
The Harbour Lights Bar & Restaurant will take pride of place at the marina and the new owner, Nigel Williams moved down to Dorset with his wife from Lancashire 6 years ago and Nigel told us it was the perfect opportunity at the right time;
"We retired from Lancashire and moved to sunny Dorset and put our feet up enjoying the sunny south coast. And then the opportunity to take over the Boat that Rocks came a long."
"We're very much local based and will be mainly employing people from Weymouth or Portland. All our staff will 100% come from both towns and all the products will be local as well."
"We will very much be an all-day venue and starting with some fantastic breakfasts' in the morning, going through to light bites and tasty snacks at lunchtime, going through to a really nice a la carte dinner in the evening."
