The owner of a cut price food shop in Weymouth has launched a campaign to stay open after the council thinks its past its sale by date.

Bargain Brand Food Outlet in Lynch Lane used to be a garage and owner Colin Williams is trying to get the council to agree a change of use for the premises.

They're not keen as they say the area isn't for retail.

Colin is asking customers to write to West Dorset District Council to show their support.  He says his shop which sells food past its Best Before dates is helping the community.

"Ive had some wonderful letters from people backing us on this.  Some families can now afford to feed themselves because everything sold in the shop costs 25p.  That means they can come in and spend £10 and buy a lot of food for the £10."

Colin doesn't think much of their argument that Lynch Lane isn't a retail area.

"Right across the road from us there's two retail units, there's a fish and chip shop and a garden centre and a café. So what do they see as being retail?"

Colin has to put his case to WDDC by Friday.
