Dorset Firm Wins UK Cheesemonger Title
9:30am 24th March 2014
Here's something you might not know - but it's the UK's Cheesemonger of the Year awards tonight - and Dorset has won.
The Town Mill Cheesemonger in Lyme Regis will take the prize at a ceremony at Birmingham NEC.
Since opening almost five years ago, Lyme's much lauded Town Mill Cheesemonger has used a novel system to dispose of the elegant Brie boxes in which the famous French cheeses arrive.
In exchange for a £2 donation to the shop's counter top RNLI collection boat, happy foodies take them away to decorate their kitchens, or to use as serving trays.
Says Justin Tunstall, the Monger-in-Chief: "We've swapped almost 100 of these for donations to the RNLI, raising over £200 in the process. But we're building up a surplus once more and there's probably good homes waiting for the dozen or so currently cluttering a corner of the shop. Until the Easter school holidays, the shop is open only from Thursday to Sunday, so please don't come down with a shiny £2 coin in the early part of the week."
