You'll now need more than 13 times the Dorset average salary to buy a house with an 80 per cent mortgage in the county.

Figures from the National Housing Federation just released say the cost of the average home is £ 254,891 which would mean a gross annual income of £ 50,978 would be needed for an 80% mortgage.

Their report, just released,  also says over the last 10 years ath average wage raise has been just 26% while house prices have risen by 55%.

The federation are calling for more affordable housing to be built and warn of a drain of talent out of the county to areas where  the cost of housing is more realistically achieveable.
