Plans to Evolve and Improve Weymouth Town
7:46am 14th April 2014
A new masterplan is being drawn up to allow Weymouth Town Centre to compete with other shopping destinations.
It will look at how the town's waterside settings could be better used to strengthen Weymouth's reputation.
The Borough Council say according to a recent study Weymouth needs to evolve and improve.
They want to make more of its best features, growing a market for leisure and recreation.
Councillors are also considering how to prevent the risk of town centre flooding. One option would be to create a tidal barrier at the River Wey, adding improvements to the harbour walls and esplanade.
It's estimated this would cost £66M.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's Management Committee will look at the latest report on the masterplan today.
