LISTEN: Lifeboat Alert Siren Installed in Weymouth

RNLI lifeguard

8:17am 16th April 2014

It was the sound you would hear to tell you that the Lifeboat was about to launch in Weymouth.

But the traditional firing of the maroons has now been replaced.

The new siren features a signal which sounds for 10 seconds, followed by a voice message and then a distinctive pulsing sound - click below to hear the siren.

The siren is placed at the boat house and will go off between 7am and 10pm when the lifeboat's launched.

It's been chosen after trials proved the sound would carry well.
