A garage in Maiden Newton has been smashed through after a ram raid during the early hours this morning (Wednesday 23rd April).
Thieves targeted the Spar Service Station, on Dorchester Road, for their smash and grab at around 1am and the building has suffered major damage.
The raiders tried to steal an ATM machine at the garage but couldn't remove it and left empty handed.
Speaking from the scene Wessex FM's Luke de Costa said raiders had made a real mess;
"The sheer force of the car pushing through the shop front has caused a lot of destruction. The doors are buckled and hanging off their hinges and glass is everywhere. I spoke to one of the owners who was there with some mates trying to repair the damage as best they can, so they can get open again as soon as possible. He was understandably gutted and didn't say much apart from it was a big loss to him and his partner who own the garage."
Dorset Police are investigating what's becoming a familiar incident of late with two similar raids in small West Dorset communities.
Earlier this month a cash machine was stolen from a holiday park in Charmouth and another ATM was taken in a ram raid at a village store in Mosterton.
