Over recent months we've reported numerous beach cleans on Chesil but now it's time for all of Dorset's beaches to get a blitz!
The Great Dorset Beach Clean takes place this Sunday (27th April) with twenty five of our finest coastal locations on the list.
Organised by Dorset Countryside Ranger service it's in it's 26th year and volunteers will be given bags, gloves and other things to help.
Since 1988 15,227 people have taken part in the clean-ups beach clean, collecting 20,381 bags of rubbish. The haul at the 2013 beach clean included a giant fishing aerial, 25 litre container of sump oil, a large horseshoe floatation device, an empty cash box from a car park ticket machine, inflatable dingy and a home made trolley.
Jenny Penney, Senior Coastal Ranger, (and coordinator of the event) Dorset County Council, said, "It's vital that we keep cleaning beaches to make them safe for people and wildlife as well as maintaining their beauty. By helping monitor and pick up litter on our beaches, people can make a real difference."
