Mosterton Village Post Office and Store is up for sale.
Community groups interested in taking it on and who meet the right criteria under the Right To Buy Scheme are being asked to approached West Dorset District Council.
The Post office is listed as an asset of community value.
That means community groups are given extra time to raise the cash to buy it before the premises is sold to another party.
West Dorset District Council Leader Cllr Robert Gould: "This village post office and stores is on our list of assets of community value because we recognise the importance the building has in the rural community.
"We strongly recommend community groups who qualify under the Community Right to Bid to notify the council of their intention to bid by 26 May."
Community groups who qualify under the Community Right to Bid have from now until 26 May to notify the district council in writing of their intention to bid on the property.
Written notifications should be sent to Spatial and Community Policy, South Walks House, Dorchester, DT1 1UZ or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
