Dorset Knob Throwing In Cattistock
12:02am 4th May 2014
An uniquely Dorset event takes place today in Cattistock.
The Dorset Knob throwing and Frome Valley Food Fest mixes a series of games involving the Dorset produced food item and some cooking demonstrations.
The serious side features cooking demonstrations from, amongst others, Heston Blumenthal's head chef, Ashley Palmer-Watts. also appearing are Lee Moreton from Dorset Charcuterie, Jack Mackenzie from the Acorn Inn at Evershot, and Somerset Chef Jean-Paul De Ronne.
The Dorset knob throwing is supported by Dorset's Moores, producers of the famous Dorset Knob Biscuit.
Event organiser Nigel Collins told Wessex FM this year's display includes some new games including the 2014 'Knobathlon' and 'Knob or No Knob' to add to old favourites as the 'Knob Throwing', Knob and Spoon racing, and others.
So what exactly is a Dorset knob?
Nigel told us it's dough, hard baked, so effectively a golf ball sized crispbread, eaten as an accompanyment so good to have with Blue Vinny cheese, dunked in tea or cider, or eaten with honey and cream in which case it's called 'thunder and lightning'!
