Petition Over Greenhill Gardens Set To Trigger Council Debate
6:48am 7th May 2014
Campaigners in Weymouth are hoping a petition with more than 700 signatures will be enough to trigger a full council debate about the future of Greenhill Gardens.
The council wants to sell off the Chalets, tennis court and putting green to a developer so they can invest in the facilities.
But Geraldine Owen who's behind the petition wants the gardens to become a community asset under public stewardship.
She says from the comments she's received on the petition, she's not the only one.
"They talk about visiting the gardens with their grandparents and now they're grandparents themselves. There's such a history with the gardens, it's more than just a place to sit."
Geraldine who will be handing her petition over on Friday added;
"People like the gardens as they are. The petition is calling for the gardens not to go to a potential developer that could make changes and put up new buildings."
