Bridport Parent Group Saved
7:03am 7th May 2014
A group that helps single parents, with advice and support, in Bridport has been saved from closing.
The Town's Children's Centre had been close to scrapping their monthly parent-led forums in March due to low attendance.
Since we ran a news story on the potential closure more single Mums and Dads have come forward and joined the group where they can share their experiences of lone parenthood.
The informal set-up allows people to chat amongst themselves in a friendly environment over a cuppa.
Tammy Dommett from the Children's Centre told us it's great single parents still have a place to go in Bridport;
"They are all going through similar stuff so sharing tips and ideas about getting through it and just being together in the same place is excellent for these lone parent families."
One parent who uses the group said the group has been vital in helping him raise his child;
"Since becoming a single father of two I've understood some of the unique challenges that single parenthood presents - particularly the difficulty of juggling family time, work and my own personal time. It's useful speaking to other single parents to exchange stories and tips and I'd welcome an opportunity to meet other parents in a similar situation."
Tammy wants more single Mum's and Dad's to join the growing group;
"Anyone can join who is a single parent; just go along to Bridport's Children's Centre the last Saturday of every month. It's a group now run by single parents FOR single parents which is fantastic."
The next session is on Saturday 31st May, for more information call Tammy at Beaminster Children's Centre on 01308 861030.
