Bridport's Vintage Market Set To Make A Come Back
8:15am 8th May 2014
Bridport's Vintage Sunday Market is making a come back.
It first started in 2010 on St Michael's Trading Estate, but was suspended a year later.
Now landlords Hayward & Co are welcoming its return.
A spokesman for Hayward & Co which owns the estate said;
"We are pleased to welcome back the market onto the estate. We hope to build on the success of its previous life and have established a small group, representing the traders on the estate, to take charge of the arrangements. As responsible landlords of St Michael's, we felt there was a need for us to have more involvement in overseeing such events and that's what we are working towards we hope to everyone's benefit."
Tracy Caden is part of the group of traders who are bringing it back - she's says the benefits to Bridport will be huge;
"It brings a lot of people in so everyone benefits from it. People come in, they come round the market, they eat in there. Everyone else will feel the benefits as well. Even down to the car parks."
And Tracy says its really putting Bridport on the map;
"They come from far and wide. We get lots of people who come from abroad who have heard about it and they come to see it. Bridport is now a destination for people. Its not just somewhere you pass through or go for a cup of tea."
Roy Gregory, who is leader of the Bridport Market Traders Forum welcomed the news:
"Apart from offering an opportunity for additional trading for some of our own members, the return of the market also offers even more reasons to visit Bridport, the gateway to the world heritage Jurassic Coast, and the surrounding areas and it fits with our aim to promote the town in a cohesive way."
The first Vintage Market will be held on Sunday 25th May.
