Anti Badger Cull Protesters To Visit Dorchester
8:09am 10th May 2014
This time next week, badger protestors will be marching through Dorset.
Hundreds of campaigners are expected to join the event calling for an end to what they call, "inhumane", badger culling.
Protestors will march up High West Street and to Cornhill before meeting for a festival in Borough gardens.
Dorset was on standby to join the pilot culls but DEFRA announced the county would not become a killing zone last month.
Andrew Butler from Dorset Badger and Bovine Welfare says next weeks (Saturday 17th May) event through the town and into Borough Gardens has a clear message;
"Although the cull is not coming to Dorset this year there are threats of bringing the cull here next year, so we want to make sure that it won't happen. So we're supporting the Dorset badger vaccination project to make sure badgers in Dorset are vaccinated instead of culled."
The event follows similar marches throughout England that have taken place over the past year, each attracting hundreds of people, many of whom have taken an active role in trying to stop the badger culls.
