Wanted:Next Generation Of Morris Dancers
12:00am 11th May 2014
Young men in Dorset are being challenged to try something new.
Wessex Morris Men are on the hunt for new, younger recruits to keep alive the tradition.
And don't be fooled into thinking it's just village fetes you'd be dancing at - they travel around the world.
Morris Dancer Mike Phelan says once you try it, you won't look back.
" We have great fun, we give the crowd a laugh and we get great exercise from it. Wessex Morris men are a really socially bunch. We're not a bunch of old fuddy-duddies. We keep fit from our dancing and take everyone all over the world."
They've performed in Germany, France and Austria and give energetic and entertaining displays in towns and villages across Dorset and at major shows.
Their oldest dancer is 86 years old.
They're holding an open event at the Colliton Club in Dorchester for new recruits on Monday 30th June at 8.15pm.
