Weymouth Walk-In Centre to Stay Open for Another 2 Years

There's more help for people in Weymouth, who don't have a GP or can't get a Doctor’s appointment.
The town's Walk-In and local Health Centre have been given a 2 year contract extension.
Project managers will now look at how the Walk-In and Health Centres can work with other local services like Weymouth's Minor Injuries Unit and Out of Hours Service at the Community Hospital.
Locality Chair for the Weymouth and Portland Locality with NHS Dorset CCG Dr Karen Kirkham explains "The Weymouth Walk-In Centre was commissioned to deliver a walk in service without a prearranged appointment.
This sits alongside the Minor Injuries Unit and other out of hours services. Now we have agreed an extension to the current contract we have the opportunity to explore if and how services can better work together to meet the current and future requirements of local people.
The top priority for everyone working in healthcare is the wellbeing of the local community. We want to work with, and listen to, local people to understand local health needs, and the extended contract gives us sufficient time to ensure what is on offer in the future is appropriate".
