Street Triage Pilot To Start In Dorset On June 1st

PCC Martyn Underhill

9:18am 19th May 2014

Next month people with mental health issues will get extra support if they find themselves in the hands of the law in Dorset. PCC Martyn Underhill's Street Triage scheme has been in the pipeline for some time and after an earlier delay will be launched on June 1st.

The 12 month pilot is set to transform the way Police deal with people who have mental health problems, with mental health experts on call to offer direct advice to Officers on the ground and assist them on emergency calls.

The partnership will run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner Underhill says it's crucial people with mental issues get the right care as quickly as possible in an emergency; "With support from mental health professionals, officers will have the assistance they need to treat vulnerable people appropriately in times of crisis. This is a huge step forwards in our partnership work between health services and the police."
