Moves to tempt businesses into empty shops and breathe new life into Dorset have been backed by councillors.
West Dorset District Council has agreed to give new owners a 50% discount on shop rates if it's been stood empty for a year.
The new Government-funded scheme will go under the banner, Business Rates Reoccupation Relief, and the discounted rate lasts for 18 months.
Councillors hope it'll attract new businesses to Dorset's towns and villages.
Leader of West Dorset District Council Robert Gould, said; "We're keen to do all we can to support West Dorset's Businesses."
"We want our towns and villages to go on thriving and I am very pleased we can help them."
"Nationally 14% of shops are empty. In West Dorset we are confident that our high streets are still doing fairly well."
"We are lucky to have so many great independent shops and locally run businesses. I hope this move will encourage even more to start trading."
