Dorset Cheesemakers Taste Success

Dorset-based dairy, Ford Farm has impressed the crème de la crème of the cheese industry at the British Cheese Awards 2014, with its diverse portfolio of cheeses, scooping a total of 13 Medals, four of which were Gold.
The Farm was one of 178 cheesemakers across the UK to enter the awards which took place at its new home, the Royal Bath & West Show, for the first time this year.
The British Cheese Awards which are the most prestigious awards on the British cheese calendar and precede the much relished British Cheese Week which is now well underway, attracted in excess of 1,000 entries. The entries were judged by an assembly of leading cheese cognoscenti from across the industry.
The highest accolade was awarded to Farm's latest introduction to the portfolio, Cave Aged Goat's Cheddar. Launched exclusively as a Tesco Finest brand, this variety which is made by hand on the Farm from premium goat's milk and then matured 200 feet underground in the Wookey Hole Caves, was voted the overall Champion Supermarket Cheese.
Vintage Cave Aged Cheddar, an eighteen month matured traditional West Country Farmhouse Cheddar, aged at Wookey Hole also achieved a gold medal.
Two smoked cheese varieties made by the Farm, Dorset Red and Billie's Smokey Goat were both awarded Gold in the 'Flavour Added' category.
The Farm also won the overall best packaging award for its English cheese selection pack as well as a Silver for its waxed cheddar truckle.
The product development team were delighted to win bronze medals for two flavour innovations conceived and developed earlier this year exclusively for export to the USA - a Wensleydale with White Chocolate and Raspberry as well as a Wensleydale with Strawberries & Cream.
