Big Lunch Across Dorset Today
12:07am 1st June 2014
Thousands of people in towns and villages across Dorset are putting on a "spread" for their neighbours today (Sunday 1st June).
It's the sixth annual Big Lunch party organised by the Eden Project.
It's all in an effort to get more of us talking with our neighbours and building stronger, friendlier local communities.
Pat is the Vice Chair of Winfrith Village Hall in Wareham who is hosting a big luncheon to raise funds that they hope will go some way, to paying for repairs to their 60 year old building.
Their Big Lunch is at Marley House and Pat says it's an important event:
"Sometimes people can get a bit isolated especially if they're growing a bit older. I think it's really important to keep an eye open for each other, have a friendly chat, someone whose door you can knock on and have a cup of coffee with."
Pat reckons there will be a fair few salad bowls at their Marley House lunch too:
"This was an idea that the Big Lunch people gave me, for us to grow our own salad, so I managed to get some packets of seeds from the local garden centres and distribute them around the village. So everyone has been growing lettuces and radishes like mad ... So we'll have to wait and see what we get."
