Thieves Steal Haul Of Valuables During Portland Break In
7:15am 4th June 2014
Police are on the hunt for audacious thieves who've stolen loads of valuables from a property on Portland.
The raid happened sometime overnight nearly 2 weeks ago (Thursday 22nd - Friday 23rd May), and it could be linked with another attempt.
Officers on the island say jewellery, watches, 500 cigarettes and a safe containing cash were taken from the property in Reforne.
Burglars used a ladder to break-in through an upstairs window.
The incident has similarities with a less successful burglary last week on Wakeham, where raiders failed to get through a kitchen window that was locked. A ladder was also found propped up against an outside wall too.
In both cases the occupants were away at the time.
Police Constable Steve Morris, of the Portland Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "It is possible, there was suspicious activity in the area around the time these crimes took place. If you saw anything, I urge you to come forward.
"If you have been offered to buy watches or items of jewellery for unusually low prices, please contact the police on 101.
"I ask anyone with information that can assist the investigations to contact the police in confidence.
"Residents are reminded to be vigilant and to be careful about leaving any insecure items outside that may assist burglars. If you are leaving your home unattended for a longer period of time than usual, please ensure this is not obvious to strangers.
