Some Bridport businesses have told us current roadworks in the town are affecting local trade, and this week will see more disruptions.
Work is currently going on in the town centre to replace a collapsed sewer and is estimated to take another two weeks by Wessex Water.
Abi King, owner of Lace & Buckle Shoes in Bridport, said the repairs and temporary traffic lights have had a direct impact on trading, "The footfalls been less, and the traffic volume within the town has been less- people just aren't coming into the town, they're avoiding the town completely."
As of today (9th June 2014) sections of the B3162, north of Bridport between North Allington and Dottery Road, will be closed for road improvement works over the week.
Simon Holland's from Washingpool Farm and told us that the current roadworks in the town centre haven't affected his trade as much as he may have predicted. However, the next lot of roadworks beginning today are on the stretch of road which the farm shop is located on, but Simon said he feels like the Council's communication has made life easier;
"We've been talking to the Dorset County Council about it and they have actually been quite helpful about it this time; giving us all the information. The proof will be in the pudding as to whether they'll take the signs down and say the roads open at the end of the day and the beginning of the day, but we're open normal hours."
He added that he thinks they've learnt from mistakes two years ago when the resurfaced the same road, and he understands the work has to be done although he's expecting a loss in trade.
