Free Bike Check-up for You and Your Friends in Dorset
8:41am 11th June 2014
If you're into pedal power then saddle your stead because you can get a free bike check-up in Dorset next week (Wednesday 18th June).
It will be national Bike Week and experts are doing free MOT's at County Hall in Dorchester between 12pm and 4pm.
The Dr Bike sessions include fixing punctures, adjusting brakes and gears, as well as advising on potential problems and giving tips on looking after your bike.
Dorset County Council's Cabinet member for environment and the economy Peter Finney said the free sessions are for everyone:
"Cycling is a great way of getting around; it gets you fit and saves you money. Bike Week is not just for established cyclists, it's about promoting cycling for everyone and showing just how easily riding can become part of everyday life."
There's also a free bike maintenance session in Weymouth on Sunday 22 June at Westham Bridge secure cycle parking compound from 10.30am-3pm. Organisers say you can cycle into town with the family and leave your bikes to collect later in the day.
To celebrate bike week the new Weymouth Way shared path is being officially opened. The two-mile (3km) route joins together Weymouth town centre with the Relief Road cycle path.
Bike Week is the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK, and encourages over half a million people to join in events, rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.
