Bin your Fears Over New Bin Collection in Weymouth

9:33am 11th June 2014

It's time to talk rubbish in Weymouth this afternoon.

If you live in Weymouth and Portland - you'll be getting new bins in October for waste and recycling.

You can find out more about how you'll be affected by the changes this afternoon at Preston Village Hall from 2pm.

The new service will consist of a fortnightly recycling collection, a fortnightly rubbish collection and a weekly food waste collection.

Weymouth and Portland residents who currently have a green bin will keep it to use for recycling and will get a new bin for rubbish.  Brown wheelie bins will be removed in October but people with smaller food waste containers will keep them.

People with sack collections will only be able to put out two blue sacks per fortnight but can continue using gull-proof bags.

The Recycle for Dorset service is already being used by 135,000 households and has led to recycling rates doubling to more than 60%.
