Dad Saves Weymouth Play Area From Fire
6:52am 18th June 2014
A Weymouth Dad has managed to stop a fire that was started by teenagers, from spreading and potentially causing serious damage.
Nathan Hawker was with his wife and young son when he saw the youths dumping rubbish and burning paper in the playground at Lodmoor Country Park on Monday (16th June).
He managed to disturb them and stamp out burning embers from inside the play area, before it was too late:
"Luckily there were no flames, just smouldering paper, so I dragged the embers from the hedge because it was amongst dry leaves. I managed to stamp it all out, but when I went back to the playground I noticed the top of the ship that's there was all burnt ... It's a bit of a mess really."
Nathan often walks through the park with his family and he takes his young son to play in the playground there. The mindless anti-social behaviour has struck a nerve with him:
"To see it defaced like that with no consideration is very frustrating. It made me a bit angry and quite sad actually. If no one was there to see these burning embers in the hedge, it could be well gone by now."
Dorset Police were called to try and track down the youngsters who'd run away.
