Manhole Cover Explosion in Swanage

Dorset Fire And Rescue Engine 3

11:23am 25th June 2014

Arching power cables have been blamed for an underground explosion that caused a power cut in Swanage.

Members of the public called Dorset Fire and Rescue after hearing the bang and seeing smoke coming from a manhole cover last night at around 9pm (Tuesday 24th June).

Emergency crews found cables underneath the drain had bowed out of shape and caused the explosion to happen.

Firefighters removed the manhole cover to let the smoke out before electricity engineers arrived.
