Dorset Wildlife Trust Set's Out Its Stance On Off Shore Wind Park
4:11pm 25th June 2014
Dorset Wildlife Trust is setting out their stance on a giant off shore windfarm proposed for Dorset.
A report being considered by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council suggests that the Navitus Bay development could create around 200 local jobs.
Dorset Wildlife Trust say what they want is a net gain for the environment.
Chief Executive Dr Simon Cripps says they do have concerns about the potential impact on local bird populations;
"We have along our coasts Gannets that come from Alderney and Alderney has about 3% of the world's population of Gannets. Now that's a really important population that has to be looked after."
"If the Government choses this we want to make sure the standards of the development and operation are high and that there is minimum damage to the environment and that there is a benefit to the environment."
