Young Sea Cadets to Tour Nuclear Sub on Portland

Submarine

11:01am 8th July 2014

One of the Royal Navy's most feared attack submarines will surface at Portland today (Tuesday 9th July).

HMS Torbay, a nuclear sub stretching nearly 100 metres long, is on a 6 day official visit to the harbour.

Sea cadets, school children and members of the Police have all been invited on board to take a closer look and meet the submariners.

It carries 130 crew and is armed with torpedoes and tomahawk missiles. But nothing is more impressive than its high-tech sonar system that can locate vessels more than 50 miles away in the sea.
