Are you planning on visiting your local beach this summer?
It seems the coast is as popular with locals as it is with tourists.
Research suggests that up to 87% of residents in the county will be visiting their local beaches during the British summer time.
And interestingly, the Dorset citizen survey found that during the winter an impressive 84.5% of residents still trek down to the seaside.
So what do people in Dorset look for in a good beach?
The survey suggests that the most important factor is cleanliness, with more people being attracted to our coasts when there is minimal litter.
Clean bathing water was also a vital, and with the Marine Conservation Society Good Beach Guide recommending 36 of Dorset's beaches with 'exceptional water quality' it comes as no surprise why the people of Dorset keep coming back.
We spoke to these people in Dorchester town centre to find out why they enjoy going to the beaches.
