Heath Fire Warning After Winfrith Blaze

Heath fire Winfrith

6:38am 15th July 2014

Dorset Fire and Rescue believe a heath fire at Winfrith which broke out yesterday morning, was either started deliberately or carelessly.

At one stage, as many as 40 firefighters were at the scene off Gatemore Road.

Speaking to Wessex FM, Incident Commander Charlie Pack said a flanking manoevre was used to bring the flames to a natural fire break.

He also said conditions are very dry at this time of year which means any blaze can not only put wildlife and vegitation in danger, but also human populations if a fire spreads towards homes and businesses.
