Village Kicking Up A Stink About Slurry Smell
6:49am 15th July 2014
Residents of Crossways are becoming increasingly concerned about a recent proposal to install a slurry lagoon on the outskirts of the village, at Summer Farm, which could produce some undesirable smells to the surrounding area.
The slurry lagoon, which is to be around the size of a football field, would be used to store industrial waste, such as that from cheese manufacturing, which has been identified to produce pungeant smells.
Parish Council Chairman Andrew Brewer told Wessex FM:
"It's going to blight the whole of our village. You may think it's only those alongside it, but in actual fact people hundreds of metres away are thinking, 'If we can smell it now, what is it going to be like if its even bigger?!'".
Councillor Brewer's inviting members of the public to a meeting next Thursday when they'll take residents feelings and then send their response to the planners.
Details of the plan can be found at http://webapps.westdorset-dc.gov.uk/PlanningApps/Pages/Search.aspx by selecting West Dorset and then Crossways.
