Festival Organisers Offer Help To Replace Memorial Bench

Chesil Beach

A family left distraught by a bill to replace a memorial seat in memory of their daughter after it was attacked by vandals are being offered help from the organisers of the Jurassic Rocks Music Festival.

Michelle and Andy Johnson say they can't afford to pay Weymouth and Portland Borough Council the £745 +VAT to repair and replace the bench, made in tribute to their daughter Jess, who died in 2006 aged 14.

The bench, which overlooks Chesil Beach had to be removed for safety reasons.

Jurassic Rocks promoter and Portland Councillor Glen Chadwick heard about the family's plight and has offered to help.

He's told Wessex FM they'll be paying the full cost of a new bench.  They'll also be collection buckets at the festival on Saturday which will help pay for maintenance costs.
