Hundreds Of School Children Enjoy Beach Sports Festival

Hundreds of children from local special schools packed onto Weymouth Beach yesterday to take part in a Beach Sports Festival.
Youngsters were able to try a range of activities, including kayaking and gig rowing.
County Sports and Physical Activities Manager Dave Franks says it shows sport is really open to all.
"it doesn't matter what your capabilities are. There are lots of activities you can do. You can reach for the Paraolympics and so on. So it's a fantastic day for them to try out lots of different things and perhaps take them on when they get home."
Terry Dunn is a teacher at Westfield School in Weymouth. He told Wessex FM it was a real life changing experience for many of the young people taking part.
"These kids are doing things that they might never have a chance to do. We've been out on the Freedom boat across the bay - with 10 students, and four of them had never been on a boat before. They had a wonderful time."
