One of Dorset County Council's busiest libraries is celebrating its first birthday this week.

The Dorchester Library and Learning centre opened last summer, and has seen an average of 4000 people through its doors each month. Membership has also rose by 50% compared to when the old library was open.

It's not all about the books - the centre also has wi-fi with study areas for students and places to meet for community groups.

Counciller Colin Jamieson, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "Dorchester Library and Learning Centre is a wonderful resource for the community. The location right in the heart of the town centre makes it easy for everyone to access, and it has proven to be very popular with people of all ages, not just in Dorchester, but also surrounding areas.

"Both locals and visitors alike make good use of the facility, whether it's for books, to find out information, study space, or holding community meetings and events."
