New War Memorial For Beaminster
12:03am 20th July 2014
A service is being held in the centre of Beaminster this afternoon to unveil the area's new war memorial.
The dedication to the town's fallen soldiers has been built in the square - the same location of the original tribute - a captured German gun from World War 1.
Dorchester's Durnovaria Band will also be providing music for the event, which will start at 3pm.
A committee was formed in 2006 with the aim of bringing a memorial back to Beaminster Square. Tony Greenham is part of the group, and says it was worth the years of planning: "We had a job to get it off the ground, but now the council has come on board, we're up and running.
"It's a lovely newly built war memorial and the added thing to it is that on top of the new memorial is going to be a very old horse trough which was part of the old war memorial."
