Bill Sivewright

9:13am 22nd July 2014

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance have chosen their new emergency helicopter.

The AW169 new generation twin engine helicopter is made by AugustaWestland and will start operating from Henstridge in 2016.

The new chopper is faster and will be able to transport patients in Dorset and Somerset more quickly than ever before.

Bill Sivewright, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance CEO, said: Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance's vision for the future assumes one of clinical excellence.  The capability and flexibility offered by the AW169 made it a clear winner in our selection process.  We are looking forward to the point in time when we can start operating this fantastic helicopter and offering our patients an even more capable service that we have been proud to do in the last 14 years."

The new AW169 helicopter can comfortably accommodate 1 or 2 stretchers. The large unobstructed cabin can also accommodate wheeled stretchers and can be configured with a full suite of advanced life support equipment.
