You can now scour over 500 million years’ worth of Jurassic Coast history - all from the comfort of your home!
The Jurassic Coast Fossil Finder lists around 1,000 different fossils, from teeth to pre-historic poo! They're all historic remains being held across Dorset and East Devon museums across the Jurassic Coast. The database also holds fact-files on each of the fossils, and a magnifying glass to examine their intricate detail. Some specimens can also be explored in a 360 degrees view.
The project has been launched by the Jurassic Coast Museums Partnership and supported by Arts Council England, Natural England and the Museums Advisory Service at Dorset County Council. The aim is to get more people interested in visiting the country's museums.
Richard Edmonds, Jurassic Coast Earth Science Manager and consultant on the project, told Wessex FM: "We were careful to write the text so that there is something for everyone - from fun and accessible facts for children and beginners, to more in-depth information for specialists and geology students. We hope the Fossil Finder will capture people's imaginations and inspire them to go and see the fossils for real in the museums."
