Sandsfoot 2

8:29am 30th July 2014

THREE gardens in Weymouth and Portland have been named among the best in Britain.

Portland's Easton gardens, Weymouth's Sandsfoot and Greenhill Gardens have all won Green Flag awards.

The award handed out by environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy recognises the best parks and green spaces across the country.

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager from Keep Britain Tidy said quality green spaces are a vital resource for communities.

''A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for all the parks teams, staff and volunteers who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to create these fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.''

Cllr Ian Bruce, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Community Facilities Briefholder said he is pleased.

'' It is great news that three of our gardens have been recognised as outstanding.

''A lot of work is carried out by community groups to help make the gardens such fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.''

All three award-winning public gardens are maintained by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
