West Bay Day!
8:29am 3rd August 2014
Fun for all the family - that is what's being promised at today's West Bay Day.
There will be plenty to see and do, such as circus skills activities, a mobile skate park, bouncy castle and plenty more action-packed activities. Among all this, there will also be a classic car exhibition, live music, an outdoor bar and a variety of stalls and competitions.
During the evening, the pier will be brought to light with a walk-through candle-lit display. People will be able to buy the candles throughout the day, and will be invited to sign a memories book.
The event dates back to 1844, when it was originally known as the West Bay Regatta, and celebrates the area's heritage. The money raised from the day will go to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI), with proceeds from the candle display on the pier going to Weldmar Hospice.
Councillor Gillian Summers, Chairman of West Dorset District Council has organised the event, and said: "West Bay Day will be a great day out. The atmosphere will be brilliant, so come and join the fun. It is a great day that celebrates all that West Bay has to offer.
"I would like to thank the local businesses who have kindly donated and the harbourmaster for the huge amount of hard work he has put in to organise the event."
