Slow Loris Confiscated In Drugs Bust

Slow Loris

8:52am 15th August 2014

Here's the picture of a Slow Loris which Dorset's Ape Rescue centre are helping to look after.

Monkey World in Wareham helped with the rescue of the primate, after it was confiscated in a drugs raid by authorities in The Maldives last January.  Maldivian Police have been looking after it, but now it's been brought to the UK to be cared for, until a permanent home is found.

In a statement, Director General of Environment and Energy in The Maldives, Mr Mohamed Zahir, said: "After several unsuccessful attempts to transfer the animal, Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre from the UK has offered to take proper care of the Loris until it finds a permanent home."

"We urge the public and animal lovers to follow the international and national laws and regulations for transferring animals from one country to another and while keeping them as pets to ensure the conservation of these species while safeguarding the human health and environment."
