Weymouth RNLI lifeboat Helps Yacht In trouble In Portland Race

The volunteer crew of Weymouth RNLI all weather lifeboat were launched at approx 4.40pm on Thursday 14th August 2014 to the aid of the Dutch yacht “Kwartet” which had been caught in the vicious currents of the infamous Portland race.
The 11m yacht with 3 persons on board had been in difficulty for some time in the rough conditions of the race when she lost engine power and was soon calling Portland Coastguard for help.
On arrival on scene the lifeboat found that the causality vessel had managed to start its engine and did not need the help of the lifeboat.
The lifeboat escorted her back to Weymouth Harbour arriving at 7.15pm.
They were met by Coastguards who offered safety advice to the crew.
