Councillor Urges Magna Housing to Sell Responsibly

A West Dorset Councillor is urging Magna Housing to do a deal with another housing provider when it sells off some of its land.
Ros Kayes believes three other housing associations would be interested in buying the sites - which Magna says it needs to sell to reduce its debt.
She says keeping these assets with social providers will help to tackle the affordable housing crisis in the area.
In a statement, Councillor Kayes added: "I believe that, even if there were no covenants set by West Dorset District Council on the original transfer of the land, that legally there would have been what might be called a reasonable expectation that the housing association receiving it would have used the land to build affordable housing or, were it not to do so, to transfer the land to a body which would fulfil that original intention."
