Minister Backs 'Bart's Bash'

8:25am 23rd August 2014

A World record attempt to hold the largest sailing race in memory of a Dorset Olympian has now got the support of the UK Minister of Sport, Helen Grant.

Bart's Bash is being held on the 21st September - and so far two and a half thousand sailors from 50 countries around the globe have signed up to take part.

The race is being organised by the Andrew Simpson Foundation.

Andrew was killed in a sailing accident whilst training for the Americas Cup.

Minister for Sport Helen Grant said:

"Bart's Bash is a great way of remembering a much loved man and this ambitious attempt at a new Guinness World Record will raise money for the Andrew Simpson Foundation that is helping inspire the next generation of young people through the sport of sailing in the UK and around the world. I'm sure the day will be a huge success, a fun experience and good luck to all those taking part."
