'Great Year' For Age UK Dorchester
12:00am 24th August 2014
Wessex FM's been speaking to the new Chairman of Age UK in Dorchester.
Alison Moore says it's been a great year for the organisation who have been able to help more older people and their families.
They offer both information and practical support.
Alison says that can be given in really unique and fun ways;
"One of the big projects at the moment is melodies for memories, which is 8 singing groups, originally designed for people with dementia because we know that music is a really good medium for helping with memory. And we know that the careers really enjoy going to."
But Alison says finding the money to provide a vital service to Dorset's large elderly population isn't easy;
"I think the main challenge for Age UK as well as lots of other charities is the withdrawal of funding from the Government so we need to look at new ways of bringing funding in to support the services we know people want."
