Plans to make major changes to the traffic flow in Dorchester have been given the red light.
The County Council's cabinet have chosen not to go ahead with a revised scheme to improve junctions in the town centre.
It's because they don't think the proposals will get public support.
Plans to pave the rest of South Street are being referred to another council committee to see if it should be a spending priority.
Other proposals deferred to the Asset and Management Group will include:
Top o' Town
Pedestrian islands widened to comply with current crossing standards
Great Western Cross
Signals to be upgraded and pedestrian facilities improved
Upgrade of pedestrian crossings
Maumbury Cross and link road through car park
Junction improvements to help keep traffic moving and pedestrian facilities improved
High Street junction with Trinity Street
Upgrade signals and resurface area
Damers Road junction with Williams Avenue
Junction improvements to help keep traffic moving (following Great Western Cross improvements)
