"Walkies With Woof" Remembers Popular Local Woman
9:19am 6th September 2014
Around 40 people will set off on a sponsored walk this morning across West Dorset to remember a popular member of staff at a Beaminster vets, on what would have been her birthday.
Ruthie David lost her battle against cancer last September. Today her friends are hoping 'Walkies with Woof', which was her nickname will raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and Penny Brohn Cancer Care in Bristol.
They’ll be walking from from Crewkerne to West Bay.
They're setting off at 10am from Falklands Square in Crewkerne with a tractor blaring out loud music at the front, and 'marching' via Mosterton, Beaminster and Bridport.
Melanie King told Wessex FM; "Ruth was my best and closest friend and when she died last year I had a great big hole in my life and had to focus on doing something in her memory."
"I and close friends of Ruths' needed a challenge so came up with a speed march to raise money for the charities that helped her during her illness."
"So..... I contacted some of Ruthies friends.... aprox 40 friends are doing the march.... who were very pleased to be involved."
"Ruth was a very special person who was loved by everyone that knew her, a local girl who worked at Girling and Bowditch veterinary practice for 35 years.... very sporty and was involved in many sport clubs especially Beaminster Hockey Club.... many of the hockey girls are marching!"
"Ruth was a huge animal lover....especially dogs... not surprisingly her nick name was "woof" So hence the name Walkies With Woof."
"Last year we raised over £1500 selling sunflowers for Weldmar in her memory."
