Campaigners fighting to keep pathology services at Dorset County Hospital have handed over a petition with 8,000 signatures on it this morning.
It was presented to the Chairman of Dorset County ahead of a Board Meeting.
Hospital bosses are putting pathology services out to private tender, which they say will be better value for money for patients.
Campaigners fear that the standards of testing will suffer if it's placed into private hands.
They claim that IPP (a private pathology lab based in Taunton) , co-owned by Sodexo, is the preferred bidder to test blood in Dorset.
A spokesman from the from the Dorset Health Campaign said: "The Trust's management must urgently confirm or deny whether IPP is the preferred bidder for pathology services in Dorset.
"We have genuine and legitimate fears for the future of pathology services in Dorset if it is sold-off. The lab is currently a centre of excellence particularly for cancer, and we all want to have confidence that tests are being done by the NHS not by a private company with a chequered history."
Campaigners will be asking the Board to reconsider its decision not to let the existing lab at Dorset County Hospital bid to take on the contract.
