Local Comedian Stands Up To Cancer
8:37am 11th September 2014
Stand up comedian Tom Glover's coming home to Bridport to 'Stand Up To Cancer'.
Tom, who's just had a successful stint at the Edinburgh Festival, hosts the monthly comedy cafe at Bridport Arts Centre.
But he says next month's show will be special to him, after Pat Blake, who runs the Cancer Research charity shop in the town, asked him to consider a fundraising night.
Not only will Tom donate his appearance fee to Cancer Research UK, but a share of ticket sales and collection proceeds will also go to the charity.
He says saying 'Yes' was a no-brainer. His nan, Iris Gregory, is about to celebrate 20 years as a cancer survivor.
Polly Gifford, director of Bridport Arts Center says 'Laughter is often great medicine and if our comedy cafe can help raise money towards fighting cancer then that has to be a good thing.'
There's also a live TV fundraiser on October 17 on Channel 4 hosted by Davina McCall, Alan Carr and Dr Christian Jessen.
