A Weymouth woman with a passion for period dress is hoping to become a record breaker this weekend.
Local history blogger Rachel Knowles is travelling to Bath to join hundreds of others wearing Regency dress at the town's Jane Austen Festival in the hope of breaking the world record for the largest number of people present in authentic costume.
Regency dress, mostly worn during the early 19th century, features a high waistline and abundantly decorated dresses, wide skirts, Spencer jackets and large numbers of petticoats.
Rachel has already had the chance to preview exhibitions of the fashions of the period for the past few years, including a couple at Buckingham Palace. But this weekend will be the first time she has worn the dress to a major event, in this case one made by historical costumer Natalie Garbett, also from Weymouth.
