Flotilla Celebrates Coastguard's Farewell

7:43am 13th September 2014

The Mayor of Weymouth and Portland has praised the town's coastguard services as they prepare for their final weekend.

Kate Wheller paid tribute to the staff and volunteers who have worked at the station over the past

"We are indeed indebted to their courage, commitment and professionalism which have no doubt saved many lives- of both visitors and locals alike- in years gone by."

A flotilla to thank the service for their work will take place at 4.30pm today from Weymouth Harbour.
The boats taking part will form a proession on their journey from the Cove to the Costguard Office, where all boats will sound their horns at once, at around 5 o'clock.

Portland Coastguards are due to hand over to the new Maritime Operations Centre in Fareham in Hampshire from next week.
